“Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.” - Larry Lorenzoni~ One of my closest friend’s had a magical afternoon tea birthday party recently! Just look at the cakes she baked - yes she baked them all herself!! 😍

My current read is The Crime at Black Dudley, a 1920s murder mystery! I recently realised that my favourite reads are always in a different era - either far in the future or the past!

“And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby~ My latest library book is The Great Gatsby and I’ve been looking forward to reading it as I’m a fan of the movie. I’m half way through and so far it’s fairly similar (minus Jay Z rapping).

“The world only exists in your eyes- your conception of it. You can make it as big or as small as you want to.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald~~After a somewhat rough day at work, I enjoyed nothing more than delving into my new read “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” Odd title right? It’s better known as Blade Runner and I’ve tried to start this book several times but never much liked it. This time, however, I’m loving it!

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” - J.R.R. Tolkien~ The Hobbit Review: I just finished the Hobbit and golly did I did enjoy it! It was a delightful and immersive read and part of me didn’t want to finish it so I could continue reading it. It has quickly become one of my favourite books. I also really appreciated the beautiful artwork throughout. ~~Now onto my next read “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”

🥁The Moving Toyshop🥁 Finally getting around to putting my tuppence worth in about this little novel. I enjoyed the storyline very much, I’ve always been a fan of murder mysteries and this was somewhat light hearted and fun. However, there were aspects I didn’t much like, such as, I found it occasionally hard to read and the language was verbose at times.

This past week, as I’ve been working my way through the Hobbit and reading about the Misty Mountains, I can’t help but think back to my holiday in Italy a few years ago ⛰

“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit~ Yesterday was a dreary drizzly day and I enjoyed spending part of my lunch break in Leo’s reading the Hobbit and enjoying a hot chocolate. Speaking of the Hobbit, it’s one of most well written books I’ve read. The more I read, the more vivid a picture is created in my mind and I half feel like I’m on the adventure with Bilbo. P.S. how lovely is this book cover? 😍

“Life is a gift. Don’t forget to live it.” - Nicola Yoon, Everything Everything ~~Well, I’ve finished my latest library book: Everything, Everything! It was an easy and enjoyable read. I absolutely adored the little doodles and diary-like entries - definitely made it stand out against other books I’ve read lately. Although, at times, I found Maddy and Olly’s relationship a bit too sickeningly sweet for me and had me occasionally cringing. But overall, I enjoyed the storyline (although, perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t previously watched the film as it spoiled the a few surprises) 🙈 Now onto the Hobbit!

“Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood.” - George Orwell, 1984~I have finally collected my thoughts on 1984, and despite it being a somewhat bleak and depressing read, it challenged my thinking. Therefore, I’d recommend it to anyone who was looking for a different read.

“I changed what I could, and what I couldn't, I endured.” - Margot Lee Shetterly (Hidden Figures)~Hidden Figures is probably the best film I’ve watch this year and somehow I didn’t know it was a book adaptation! So, when I saw the book in a charity shop I couldn’t stop myself from buying it! Here’s a snap of it next to a lovely cup of @pekoetea_edinburgh tea and a scrumptious homemade cherry scone at Angle Cakes in Kinross 😋

“Oh, my fur and whiskers” - Edmund Crispin (The Moving Toyshop)~I spent half of my lunch break at @leosbeanery reading my book and sipping away on hot chocolate - and it was bliss. Also, apart from the storyline (which I am enjoying), what I’m most enjoying are the funny little sayings like the quote above or “oh, my dear paws”, I guess these are phrases from a different era - we should bring them back!
