This assignment for #makeartthatsells #matsbootcamp2018 at first seemed very challenging for me, mainly, because I never really thought about my art being in the editorial market. I really liked the look of the magazines of the "The Suffragette" and the "The Woman Citizen" printed in the early 1900's. So that is the look I was kind of going for. I love to do just pen & ink so this fit right into that look. I wanted to keep it simple and non-complex. I wanted to depict her as a lady of "justice". Ida, was a very impressive suffragette. Definitely very strong, vocal and well educated woman who fought for more than just women's rights, but justice, especially for the African-Americans and the anti-lynching laws. She really was a legacy. At the end of this assignment, I truly loved the research and my final piece of art. Tell me what you think and have you ever researched any suffragette? If not, you should! #idabwells #idabwellsbarnett #editorial #editorialart #editorialartist #magazinecover #history #suffragette #suffragettes #womensday #womanpower #antilynching #art #artistsoninstagram #artist #licensing #licensingartist #matsfaces #lillarogersstudio #characterdesign #womenofhistory

Maria Salomea Skłodowska Curie was born on the 7 November 1867 in Warsaw and died on 4 July 1934 (aged 66) Passy, Haute-Savoie, France. Marie Curie was the first woman to ever win the Nobel prize and was the only person EVER who won the Nobel prize in two different sciences. After studying at a university in Warsaw, marie moved to Paris in 1891 with her sister. In Paris she earned her higher degrees and conducted her subsequent scientific work. She shared the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with her husband Pierre Curie and with physicist Henri Becquerel. She won the prize for the development of the theory of radioactivity. She invented the term. She also discovered 2 new elements: polonium and radium. In 1911 she also won the Nobel prize in chemistry. Under her direction, the world's first studies into the treatment of neoplasms were conducted using radioactive isotopes. Curie is also famous for founding the two Curie institutes which are located in Paris and Warsaw. The Curie institutes still remain as a major centre of medical research today. During World War I, she developed mobile radiography units to provide X-rayservices to field hospitals. Marie Curie used both her surnames and kept her Polish identity. She taught her children Polish and took them to visits in Poland. She named the first chemical element that she discovered‍: ‌polonium, which she named after her native country. Marie Curie died at the age of 66 in France in 1934 of aplastic anemia from exposure to radiation in the course of her scientific research and in the course of her radiological work at field hospitals during World War I._What did you think about my post?Write a comment below!Tag 3 friends!_Follow my comrades :@history_20thcentury@ww2instyle@greatestpicture_history@historical.music@understandhistoryofficial@ww2history_pics@americancivilwar_ig_#history #united_historians #discoverhistory #mariecurie #women #womenofhistory #frau #womensrights #scientist #nobelprize #france #poland #polska #warszawa #paris #time #radioactive #element #elements #wow #historic #institute #female #physics #chemistry #biology #science

Marion Pritchard, a social worker, saved and sheltered over 150 Jewish people during WW2. She once went as far as to shoot and kill a nazi who invaded her home before he could take away or hurt a baby (pictured) that came out from hiding. We celebrate courageous women all over the world who have risked their lives for others and fought bravely for freedom and a better life for people everywhere. We may not have the opportunity to put our life on the line but we can love others boldly and act bravely every day. Anytime we make a #selfless decision we are #heroes too. #womenwarriors #heroines #loveboldly #fearlesswomen #womenofhistory #womenshistorymonth #couraging #practicecourage #bebrave #choiceschatt #liveloveboldy

This is Rose Kushner, who spoke out against “the standard one-step biopsy and mastectomy" as treatment for breast cancer—in which doctors would mastectomy while the patient was under anesthesia without the patient’s consent. Kushner herself received this treatment and was horrified that women were not being given any authority over their own bodies. She wrote a bestselling memoir and investigative report about her experience, originally called Breast Cancer: A Personal History and Investigative Report. In this book, she wrote, “We women should be free, knowledgeable, and completely conscious when the time comes for a decision, so that we can make it for ourselves. Our lives are at stake.” By telling her story, Kushner brought an end to this medical practice. 📢📢📢

Women's Empowerment Woman of History:LALU NATHOYa.k.a. "Polly Bemis"✨Kidnapped from China when she was eighteen years old, Lalu Nathoy was sold to a slave trader headed for American. There, she and other girls were sold at a public auction, destined to become wives or prostitutes. Lalu's buyer named her "Polly," and took her to work as a saloon girl in Idaho. Lalu eventually won her freedom through courage, sharp wit, and the help of true friends. She went on to become a successful business woman and gained the respect of everyone in her town, despite the rampant racial bigotry of the time.✨Lalu Nathoy is a beacon of strength and resilience to women everywhere, and an inspiration to all of us at Women's Empowerment.✨✨✨#womenshistorymonth #womenshistorymonth2018 #lalunathoy #pollybemis #womenofhistory #womensempowerment #empowerment #empoweringwomen #sac #sactown #saccounty #sacramento #sacramentoproud #sacramento365 #sacramentowomen #mysacramento #downtownsac #downtownsacramento #midtownsac #greaterbroadwaydistrict #nonprofit #homeless #endhomelessness #weworks #bdog2018 #bdogimpact

Did you know that 90% of London’s monuments celebrate men? I didn’t. The Mary on the Green campaign is fighting to get a statue erected in a Newington Green for writer and women’s right activist, Mary Wollstonecraft. She wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Woman in 1792, fought for women to have representation in Parliament, opened a boarding school for girls in Newington Green, and proposed that girls and boys be educated together. Head to Maryonthegreen.org to find out how you can help the campaign. #TheLiftUpProject #mondaymotivation #MaryOnTheGreen

Elaine Lane was a bush baby born near a rock hole. The country painted by Elaine reaches from #Jameson to #Blackstone, over the red sand dunes, along the Blackstone ranges and over the expansive flood plains and clay pans. This country floods after the wet season rains at the base of the ranges, water covering the land feeding the ground for the next cycle of wildfowers and grasses. Elaine paints the stories of #Blackstone. Elaine is a strong woman, colourful and proud with her wisdom and strength depicted in her works.Sourced @papulankutjaartists#indigenouswomen #culturalprotection #aboriginalwomen #womenofhistory #herstory #ethicallysourced #aboriginalart #indigenousart
