Omar Kharbin scored twice as Saudi giants Al Hilal eased into the AFC Champions League final with a 6-2 aggregate victory over Iran's Persepolis following a 2-2 draw in their semi-final second leg on Tuesday.Al Hilal already had one foot in the final after an emphatic 4-0 victory over the leading Iranian side in the first leg, but Tuesday's match proved much tougher with Persepolis taking the lead on two occasions only for Al Hilal to bounce back twice and clinch a draw.Syrian star Kharbin, who scored a hat-trick in Al Hilal's first-leg win, was the hero once again as he struck twice to help his side avoid defeat in a game played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat.Nigerian Godwin Mensha put Persepolis ahead in the 16th minute, heading in from the centre of the box after receiving a cross from Vahid Amiri, who snatched the ball from Al Hilal's Mohamed al-Burayk following a corner. The goal briefly raised expectations of a miraculous comeback but the Iranians surrendered the advantage in the 30th minute when Mohamed Ansari fouled Salman al-Haraj and Kharbin converted from the spot with a crisp right-footed shot to equalise.#riyadh #jeddah #dammam #celebrate #PERvsHIL #uae #saudiarabia #happening #breakingnews #storyoftheday #photography #news #alhilal #football #soccer #news #storyoftheday #picoftheday #pride #player #sports #fitness #afc #asia #final #winner #thegulftoday @theafchub @alhilal.f.c #الهلال_بيروزي‬⁩ ⁧‫#الهلال

Canadian poet, critic and novelist Margaret Atwood received this year's international Franz Kafka literary prize at a ceremony in Prague on Tuesday, which honoured the lifetime achievements of "The Handmaid's Tale" author. "I think this one is quite special because the first free-standing literary essay that I wrote that was not for school was about Franz Kafka back in the 1950s," Atwood told AFP. "At that time I read not only his biography but all of his work and I remember it very well," she added before receiving the $10,000 (8,500 euros) prize. "He also of course in retrospect seemed quite prophetic, not only about the Nazi regime, but also about the behaviour of the USSR." #happening #breakingnews #storyoftheday #photography #franzkafka #awards #booker #prague #newspaper #frankfurtbuchmesse #storyoftheday #photography #winner #pride #news #europe #thegulftoday #margaretatwood #canadian #novel #literary #thehandmaidstale #authorsofinstagram #writersofinstagram @therealmargaretatwood

The UAE national football team's new manager Alberto Zaccheroni was presented to the media by the UAE Football Association (UAEFA) President Marwan Bin Ghalita at the UAEFA's headquarters in Dubai on Tuesday. The Italian coach had earlier signed a 16-month contract on Monday, which runs to the conclusion of the 2019 Asian Cup. There is an option though to renew the deal, should the appointment prove a success.Zaccheroni succeeds Argentine Edgardo Bauza, who concluded his five-month tenure last month to take over as coach of Saudi Arabia. The new coach, who is expected to help the national team rebuild and recover from the disappointment of failing to qualify for next year’s World Cup, said the UAE national team will achieve its target of success at the 2019 Asian Cup through hard work and team spirit. The UAEFA president Marwan Bin Ghalita has said that in Zaccheroni, the UAEFA are convinced they have the right man for the job, particularly because of his success and experience in Asian football, particularly as former coach of the Japan national team. The former AC Milan, Juventus, Lazio and Inter Milan manager coached Japan in 2010, guiding them to the continental title the following year — the last time they have won the trophy. #uae #football #soccer #sport #happening #breakingnews #storyoftheday #abudhabi #dubai #alain #albertozaccheroni #photography #picoftheday #italy #milan #world #europe #thegulftoday #socialmedia #news #juventus #media #viralphoto @uaefa

The Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG) clarified that an object believed to be a meteorite seen from several parts of the UAE on Monday night was part of falling space debris of the Progress module, which is used to supply ISS (international space station) regularly. The view was spectacular and lasted for almost 80 seconds. The spacecraft disintegrated in the upper atmosphere and broke up into smaller chunks and burned like fireworks. The trajectory of the debris was over Arabian Peninsula crossing UAE and Oman to finally over Indian Ocean. The Progress is a Russian expendable cargo spacecraft. Its purpose is to deliver supplies needed to sustain human presence in orbit. While it does not carry a crew it can be boarded by astronauts when docked with a space station, hence it being classified as manned by its manufacturer. Progress is derived from the manned Soyuz spacecraft and launches on the same vehicle, a Soyuz rocket. #uae #dubai #happeningnow #storyoftheday #meteor #iss #space #happening #sharjah #russia #usa #spacestation #newspaper #orionids #october #mydubai #skyline #thegulftoday @dubaiastronomy @iss

An object believed to be a meteorite was seen from several parts of the UAE on Monday. Social media was abuzz with the news. People were sharing images and seeking to figure out what it actually was. Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center confirmed that a meteorite had passed through the skies of Dubai, the Dubai Media Office tweeted from its official account. Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, Assistant Director of the Sharjah Center for Astronomy, suggested that the foreign objects seen in several regions of the Northern Emirates and Al Ain are meteorites and are associated with the peak of the Al-Jabbariat showers or the Orionid Meteor Shower that was scheduled to peak on Oct. 20. A meteorite is a solid piece of debris from an object, such as a comet, asteroid, or meteoroid that originates in outer space, and is not completely burned in the earth’s atmosphere. It may explode in the lower atmosphere. Meteorites that are recovered after being observed as they transit the atmosphere or impact the Earth are called meteorite falls.#meteor #uae #dubai #socialmedia #happening #breakingnews #storyoftheday #atmosphere #earth #newspaper #shower #orionidmeteorshower #world #saudiarabia #oman #thegulftoday @dubaimediaoffice #عمان#الإمارات#السعودية
