Thank you @bestbeginnings for inviting me to a wonderful meet up and afternoon tea at the House of Lords. It was wonderful to hear all the marathon runners inspiring and heartwarming stories. I’ll do my best to get you all round the course!
Sold Out!•••I remember when we couldn’t get runners to come to these. Tomorrow we hold our 9th Strength Camp for Runners. It is awesome to see the tides turn and watch the conversation around running and endurance sports in general shift from a “go hard, burn out, and die” to a “plan ahead and develop strategies for long term success, continual progress, and injury free running.”•••Some of the topics we’ll cover tomorrow...•••Running as a skill. Movement in general is a skill, dictated by the laws of physics and basic facts about the anatomy of the human body. Running is a high level skill, and “doing it” isn’t “training it.” There is no comparison between doing it “more” and doing it “right.”•••The hormonal system is like any other system in the body (adrenal, respiratory, cardiovascular, muscular.) If you beat on it everyday you will, eventually, harm it. Loss of libido, irregularity of the menstrual cycle, loss of appetite, compromised sleep quality-these are all critical warning signs ⚠️•••Breath matters. A lot. Possibly, the most. As we move words like “conditioning” and “fitness” out of the weeds we can begin to get specific about what we’re actually trying to develop. The ability to get oxygen to muscles and cell, to flush waste, and actually recruit our breathing muscle (diaphragm) when breathing is the single most effective change that a runner can make to increase their performance.•••Looking forward to seeing a big crew tomorrow and grateful to be a part of your 2018 progress🙏🏽 #runstrong#runlong#runwell#runningisaskill#breathe#train#perform#improve#progress#gothedistance#thedistanceproject
