Who benefits from your activism?.📸: @rubcha for @cosmopolitan.I was watching @sassy_latte’s video on performance activism, and it got me thinking about how we speak about things..I try my personal best, to never to speak for communities that are not my own. I have always felt that, to be a great ally, you have to let marginalized individuals speak for themselves. Talking about someone’s community, through my loud speaker, makes it bias to some degree..Often when I do want to highlight something, I will give you options of who to listen to, and to make your own judgments. But I want to be clear, that just because someone doesn’t post about their personal causes, doesn’t mean they don’t have them..For example, I actively donate my skills, outside of modeling, to benefit some organizations that I feel strongly about. But I don’t feel the need to post about that. I do it, without the desired acknowledgement, of being praised for it. I do it, because it personally makes me feel good..I don’t need to perform to show allyship. My actions speak for themselves. I try my best to be as active as I can here, but it is majorly time consuming. My life doesn’t revolve around this sole application. But even though that’s the case... I can always take the time, to correct someone’s commentary. .The same can be said for me, tbh. I’m not perfect, I’m bound to make mistakes, but defending me, without analyzation, is biased. If someone is attacking me, defend me. But if someone is correcting my speech, let me try an educate myself on why they feel that way. I may stand my ground, but we must give people the opportunity to learn. .We cannot grow, as people, without being fostered to a certain degree. If we close up, and use our thorns to protect protect ourselves... but who do we harm in the process?.A rose, without sun or rain, never fully blooms. Foster education, and try not to close yourself off to contradictions..#slayyourownway#change#growth#open#selfawareness#ally#activist#models#model#trans#transisbeautiful#transgender#fat#plussizemodel#plussize#bopo#bodydiversity#bodypositive#diversity#thetimeisnow#shayneary#creatingchange#you
