When people say we don't want to reinvent the wheel, I stop listening: I want to reinvent the wheel!The importance of networking and collaboration doesn’t stop with purpose. They are just as essential for making sense of great opportunities for developing ideas and projects that are likely to be adopted, adaptable, and successful.For some, the assumption that a best practice will work everywhere is just too convenient to resist. So is the assumption that local context and people, though important, will not matter enough to make the difference. Plus, best practices fit nicely with the deep-seated notion that reinventing the wheel is a waste of time and money. Unfortunately, importing or imposing best practices usually involves trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Context, culture and People Do matter More than some would like to admit, and resistance inevitably emerges when we discount them.Creativity in branding is often nothing more than making connections that everyone else has almost thought of. A couple of days ago I talked about the importance of having a mission.This is the “what” of your business (see Monday’s post)Your purpose though, is your why.It’s the inner vision that drives you, it’s the dream you work towards every day.Don’t worry it doesn’t need to be out of this world, it could be as simple yet effective as “I want to make people’s lives easier” Having a clear purpose to work towards everyday will help you to build brand loyalty and a community of followers who want to come along for the ride with you.My purpose is to empower consumers to make conscious decisions.
