I spent this weekend at an @iwillharness gathering, connecting, strategizing, and building community among visual artists, filmmakers, actors, community organizers, cultural workers, thought leaders, and philanthropists. We held discussions about how to change ideas and dominant narratives, at the powerful intersection of art, culture and grassroots organizing. We took steps to build with each other through authentic friendship and curiosity, and deep conversation. I met many people who I felt in deep alignment with, it was like reconnecting with an artistic family that I had not seen in a long time. As an artist and arts leader, I believe that equity should be at the foundation of our work in social movements and in cultural movements as well. Culture surrounds us all the time, it shapes our identities, our understanding of the world around us, and our relationships to others. To change politics, we have to first change the culture. And the people who can be powerful in changing culture are those who make it and shape it: artists and cultural workers. Yet artists are rarely included in strategic conversations and big picture strategizing. That's why I was happy and grateful to see many artists of color, trans artists, and immigrant artists included in this weekend's gathering. Feeling full and regrounded with my life’s work. #iwillharness#art#artists#artistsasactivists#socialmovements#power#culturechange
Rams lose. Bad game. Jared Goff looked good though against a great defense. He finished 23/37 for 225 yards, but he looked great in the pocket and moving around all day. Todd Gurley was bottled up as expected, with 15 carries for 37 yards and a TD and 3 catches for 19 yards. Robert Woods still looks good though, he had 8 catches for 81 yards (He was carted off in the 4th with an unknown injury). The killer was Cooper Kupp fumbling at the 1 yard line, that killed any type of momentum we had. Defensively, we lost Kayvon Webster and Nickell Robey-Coleman to injuries which led to Dominique Hatfield and Blake Countess playing extensively. Hard to ask 2 UDFAs to contain one of the league’s best receivers in Adam Thielen. Tough game to lose. Rams are back at home next week to face the New Orleans Saints. Hopefully we can bounce back. Horns up and LET’S GO RAMS.
