Me too..I wanted to contribute to this movement that keeps popping up on my feed. It is sad that I’m not surprised how many women I’ve seen post this. I sat with my phone for an hour writing and rewriting what I wanted to add to it. What ~positive message~ or ~truth~ I wanted to share...But ~my~ truth is this: I found the most strength and peace in the knowledge that the truth is neither good or bad, but that it just is and it is mine and mine alone. I don’t expect or need for anyone to see/feel/understand it the way I do. So there are stories I will never tell or repeat, because in that I have a choice. Choice I didn’t have when those stories became my own..「私も」いまこっちではセクハラ・性的暴力/虐待・レイプを経験した女性達が「me too(私も)」とソーシャル・メディアに投稿している。 .Image source unknown.
Today's ink is of a childhood favourite, Sailormoon. As an adult looking back I was curious why Sailormoon grabbed my 11~12year old imagination to the extent at which it did.Out of curiosity I recently re-watched an abridged version of the series (with my husband). What adult me noticed right away was how feminine everything about the story is. Obviously all of the main characters are girls, so even my 11-year-old self could have told you that, but Sailormoon has a uniqueness in it's femininity. All the leads are girls, and although one (useless and 2-dimensional) male character appears and occasionally "saves the day," for the most part the girls solve all the conflicts on their own. Most of the villains are also female, albeit alien monster females. Most of the male villains who appear are feminine, and have gender-bending relationships. This is a series about women, created by a woman, for women. And though the costumes and poses portrayed are more-often-than-not over sexualised, Adult Me understood that this female sexuality is not targeted at men at all. Sailor moon creates a universe where female sexuality exists outside of any male context. Which is super interesting as an adult thinking back! After learning about the Japanese Takurazuka (all-women theatre), I definitely saw how it influenced Takeuchi Naoko, who created Sailormoon, and how it created a similar universe for women who just don't see what they are looking for represented in other mainstream media.I wasn't a girl who was very interested in princess dresses or romance stories, so on a base level the concept of Sailormoon shouldn't have appealed to me. But I think it was just so different, both in animation style and from the gender normative shows that were on TV otherwise that really captured my attention. With that in mind, here's a shout-out to the simple, yet complex, beauty of "Sailormoon"#inktober2017#inktoberday14#artchallenge#ink#pen#penonpaper#inkartist#penartist#blackandwhite#tokyoillustrator#インクトーバー#ペン画#白黒#イラストレーター#エリカワード#ericaward#Sailormoon#sailorscouts#anime#usagitsukino#manga#セーラームーン#懐かしいアニメ#漫画#フェミニズム##セーラー戦士#moonprismpower#girlpower#feminisim
